Jefferson County Executive talks county-wide recreational marijuana tax

(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Council is closer to deciding and finalizing the ballot language for a countywide tax on the sale of recreational marijuana going forward. County Executive Dennis Gannon says the tax will be stacked on top of the taxes now being collected by the county municipalities. Back in April, the cities of Festus, Herculaneum, Hillsboro, and Pevely passed their recreational marijuana tax issues. Gannon says the other thing to figure out is where to place the funds generated from the tax.

Gannon says now the decision needs to be made of when to place the issue on a county-wide voting ballot.

Gannon says the work session on August 7th will likely take care of most of the plans for the recreational marijuana sales tax. Once it is finalized, the council will vote on the issue, which will need to be read a few times before officially passing.
