Jefferson County Records Highest Weekly COVID-19 Case Count Since the beginning of the Pandemic

(Jefferson County) Skyrocket! That’s the word to describe the active number of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County with the latest CDC Week 1 update in 2022.

Jefferson County Health Department spokeswoman Brianne Zwiener has the official update.

Of the 2,806 new cases reported in Week 1, close to 63 percent were unvaccinated, almost 31 percent were fully vaccinated, and more than 6 percent were fully vaccinated and have received their booster shot.

More than 52 percent of Jefferson County residents have initiated COVID vaccination, while a little more than 48 percent have completed the full series.

The percentage of residents who have received a third dose or booster vaccine is nearing 16 percent.

In regards to flu cases, Zwiener says those numbers are down in the county compared to last week.

On Thursday, the JCHD reported 458 new daily cases of Covid-19 which brings the total number of positive cases to 43,657 since March of 2020.

The current active cases is 3,824 and there have been 398 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
