(FESTUS) The Jefferson R-7 Board of Education decided on April 16th to approve the addition of boys and girls golf as well as archery to its list of athletic programs for the 2019-2020 season.

R-7 Athletic Director Jason Dreyer explains why these specific programs were chosen.

Dreyer adds that a survey of 6th through 11th graders regarding interest in these programs received a great response and that’s why the school went through with the decision.

When it comes to the archery program, which is not sanctioned by MSHAA, Dreyer will rely on help from Hillsboro, who has an archery team, regarding getting funding.

The Jefferson R-7 archery club will compete between November and March in 2019-2020. The girls’ golf season would be combined with boys golf in the spring of 2020.
