Jefferson volleyball looks to veteran leaders for championship breakthrough

(Festus) The Jefferson Blue Jays have high standards when it comes to volleyball.

Even 24 wins and a trip to the district semifinals feels like a very good team came up just short in 2019.

But head coach Tara Fish has anxiously awaited having most of that same squad back this season.

Jefferson gets its top hitters back in senior Laney Smith and sophomores Ava Roth and Kirstyn Loyd.

Sophomore setter Paige Siebert also returns to help run the attack.

But Fish says the return of senior Payton Siebert and sophomore Emma Breier at middle blocker is crucial for the success of their defense.

But Fish says what excites her most is that the Jays’ best players have also shown tremendous leadership traits.

Jefferson starts the 2020 volleyball season at home against Seckman on Tuesday.
