(Hopewell) It was back in 2002 that Michael Politte was convicted of second degree murder involving the death in 1998 of his mother in Hopewell in Washington County. Politte was 14 when the murder occured. The trial was held in St. Francois County on a change of venue. Linda Dickerson-Bell was on the jury for that trial. She says she always had her doubts about his guilt.

Politte’s sisters maintain he was wrongly convicted as do two other jurors. In 1998, Politte awoke to find the burning body of his mother in her bedroom. Dickeron-Bell tells us about some of the details they were never made aware of.

A petition is now before the state supreme court. We asked her what they hope will happen next.

Michael Politte is now 37 years old. There’s a Facebook page concerning this case that includes a petition that you can sign if you’d like to support the cause to have him set free.
