Kekec Caps North County Hoops Career with Third-Straight Dream Team Selection

(Bonne Terre) A stellar season capped off one of the most memorable careers yet for the North County boys basketball team.

Karter Kekec helped lead the Raiders to their deepest postseason run in program history this year and earned his third-straight selection to the Boys Basketball Dream Team.

He says he appreciates being chosen once again.

Kekec missed the first half of the season after suffering a broken tibia in the district championship football game against Festus on November 13th.

After a speedy recovery, he returned the hardwood in early January and averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game while shooting 40% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free-throw line.

The Raiders were rolling all season long, and Kekec’s return made a dangerous team even more lethal as they swept through the remainder of the season before finishing as one of the final eight teams standing in Class 5.

He says it was certainly an unforgettable ride.

The North County boys were loaded with talent this year and they showcased that night in and night out.

However, Kekec says another big part of the team’s success this year and throughout his tenure has been Raiders fans showing up night in and night out as well.

This season Kekec earned his third-straight All-Conference and All-District selections, his first All-State selection, and helped lead the Raiders to a (24-2) record and Class 5 district and sectional championships.

The district title was the first for the North County boys since 1995, and the sectional win was the first state playoff win in program history.
