Man Accused of Assault Near Kingston School in Cadet Arrested

(Cadet) A man who allegedly committed an assault last week near the Kingston School District in Cadet has been arrested.

43-year-old Shelby Eugene Courtway Jr. has been charged with first degree kidnapping, two counts of armed criminal action, three counts of first degree domestic assault, two counts of second degree domestic assault and some other charges.

Courtway allegedly caused injuries by allegedly beating a woman on Thursday at a residence.

Reports say the woman had an eardrum rupture and had significant bleeding of her head after the beating.

Courtway is also accused of dragging the woman by her hair outside of the home and he apparently struck her several more times.

Washington County police believe Courtway attempted to clean up part of the crime scene.

The woman was later taken to Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi for treatment of her injuries.

The incident took place less than 2-thousand feet from the Kingston school.

Bond for Courtway is 150-thousand dollars and his initial arraignment took place today.
