St. Louis Man Confesses to the Murder of a Arnold Liquor Store Owner in 1993

(Arnold) The 27-year-old homicide of a liquor store owner in Arnold has finally been solved.

According to the Arnold Police Department, 68-year-old Loril Harp of St. Louis confessed to the 1993 killing of 40-year-old Steven Weltig.

It was on April 23rd of 1993 when Harp allegedly walked in to Ajax Liquor Store and shot Weltig in the head.

The case has since been investigated by Arnold police, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis among others over the years.

It wasn’t until 2015 when police say a good lead led them to the suspect.

Harp was interviewed numerous times over the last 5 years; however, it wasn’t until this past week when the man finally admitted to the 1993 murder after being interviewed by a couple of Arnold detectives.

On Tuesday The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Harp with Murder in the 1st Degree, a Class A felony, and Armed Criminal Action.
