Mastodon Arts and Science Fair Attracts Over 200 Entries
(HILLSBORO)    The Mastodon Arts and Science Fair wrapped up its week long event on Saturday at the Jefferson College Fieldhouse in Hillsboro with the award ceremony. Among the students winning awards in the art category was Neo Roth a senior at Festus High school.  Roth’s painting with a theme of mental health awareness won “Best in Show” and the “Flying Eagle” trophy which is sponsored by Home Service Oil Company.  Roth’s painting will also be on display at the Jefferson College Art Exhibition during July and early August.  Neo says his success at this year’s event is causing him to consider attending college to study art.

Festus senior Kylie Richardson won first place for senior artwork and she was awarded free tuition to a one day art workshop.  Her portfolio won first place and will also be displayed at Jefferson College this summer.  Kylie says she likes to work with different styles.

Brandy Brooks-Fehlker is an art teacher at Festus High School and she says “Mastodon” is important to her students.

Samantha DeClue is the Executive Director of the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair says this year’s event went well and she looks forward in the upcoming months to partner with more schools to get their students involved in the fair for next year.
