(HILLSBORO) The Hillsboro Hawks kicked off their Jefferson County Large Schools Conference schedule Tuesday night with an 80-53 home rout of the DeSoto Dragons on KJFF.

DeSoto managed to keep it close after the 1st quarter, only trailing 16-14. Then the Hawks turned it up a notch in the 2nd and began the period on an 8-2 run, taking a 38-25 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter was all Hillsboro senior forward Michael Brewer who got an assist from fellow senior Ben Lampkins in the Gilster Mary Lee Play of the Game.

 
Brewer finished with 31 points and the Applebee’s Bar and Grill of Farmington Player of the Game award. He was all smiles after the game when addressing the alley-oop dunk.

 
Hillsboro improves to 16-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Hawks are back home on Friday night to face another conference opponent in Windsor. DeSoto drops to 10-13 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the loss. The Dragons are back at it on Monday, February 11th when they pay a visit to Union.
