Missouri House Bill 1524 Which Will Increase Fines For Those Striking Highway Workers

(JEFFERSON COUNTY, JEFFERSON CITY) The Missouri Legislature is looking to pass a piece of legislation that would raise the fines for drivers traveling too fast in work zones and striking highway workers. The sponsor of House Bill 1524 is Cyndi Buchheit-Courtway of rural Festus, who also serves as the chair of the House Transportation Infrastructure Committee. She says this bill helps protect highway workers even more.

25-year-old Kaitlyn D. Anderson of DeSoto passed away in November of 2021 after she and two other Missouri Department of Transportation employees were struck by a car while they were working on a ramp from northbound Telegraph Road to westbound I-255 in south St. Louis County.

Two hearings have already been held on the bill, including one this week.
