MoDOT Planning to Add Third Lane to I-55 Southbound Between Route A and Hwy 67 South

(Festus) Congestion along I-55 southbound during the afternoon rush hour has been problematic for sometime now.
One of the major problem areas is between the Route A exit and the interchange to Highway 67 south.
MoDOT has noticed the issue with traffic flow there as well and according to area Engineer Stephen O’Connor, there is good news for that stretch of I-55 southbound.
The project, pending weather and the bidding process is expected to get underway sometime in June.
We asked O’Connor when road construction would be complete.
The road project could go out to bid by as early as this month or as late as May.
While the exact cost of the project is unknown, O’Connor estimates it to be in the several million dollars price range.
