North County’s Claywell talks state golf, Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Bonne Terre) North County Raiders senior Wil Claywell has put together a terrific high school golfing career.

He’ll be able to call himself the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week along with his many other honors.

Claywell capped his time in Bonne Terre by becoming the first Raider in a long time to medal at the state championships, finishing tied for ninth in Class 4.

He says golf is a game he first picked up when he got to high school.

Claywell was off and running in the first round of the state tournament last week in Joplin, firing a 2-over-par 74 in the first 18 holes he played at Twin Hills Golf Club.

While he didn’t feel he finished strong after a second-round 78, Claywell admits it was still one of the better tournament performances he’s ever had.

And Claywell says none of it’s possible without the people on his team.

Claywell will continue to golf competitively at Mineral Area College next year.

As Athlete of the Week, he receives a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
