Possible study for Festus Main Street, Bailey, and Mississippi Avenue improvements

(Festus, Crystal City) The Cities of Festus and Crystal City are planning to take advantage of a program called the Great Streets Program within the East-West Gateway Council to look closely at Festus Main Street, Bailey Road, and Mississippi Avenue. Festus City Administrator Greg Camp says this program can outline the needs and more.

Camp says despite the pandemic, over the summer there were many visitors to the Twin Cities for various reasons.

If the cities move along with the study, it could outline the best way to improve the parking, sidewalks, lighting, and even the problems with stormwater issues, and find the best way to make those improvements. The efforts from the Historic Tanglefoot Association has already pushed for Festus Main Street to be dubbed “Historic”, but the pandemic has slowed that process for nearly a year.
