The Potosi Trojans used a middle-innings explosion to win their first softball state tournament game in school history with an 11-1 victory over Winona in 5 innings Monday evening on KREI. The Trojans’ junior shortstop started the game with a bang and the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game.

Winona would tie the game up in the top of the fourth, but Emma Eaton belted a solo homer of her own to retake the lead in the bottom half, starting a massive 2-out rally that Coleman would get in on.

And Coleman would add one more big blow in the fifth.

Coleman scored the game-ending run in the next at-bat to finish off a day where she scored 3 times and had 6 RBI. Trojans head coach Tyler Beers couldn’t say enough good things about our Applebee’s Player of the Game.

A fifth straight win improves Potosi to 19-1. The Trojans will take their number-one ranking in the state into the quarterfinals Thursday night when they travel to Pleasant Hope. Start time is still TBD. We’ll have coverage of the game on KREI.
