Rep. Reuter Looking At Options To Eliminate Emissions Testing In Jefferson County And Other Areas

(JEFFERSON CITY, JEFFERSON COUNTY) The vast majority of the state of Missouri does not have to go through emissions testing when needing to renew their vehicle license plates. However, some of the St. Louis metro area does have to get this testing done before getting new tags. State Representative Renee Reuter of Imperial is looking at ways to do away with emissions testing.

Rueter says drafting a bill to change the law may not be the way to go.

Emissions testing can be performed at virtually any car repair shop and costs $24 for the test. Meanwhile, a safety inspection of your vehicle is $12, however, this test is only conducted on vehicles over ten years old or have over 150 thousand miles.
