Representative McGirl Votes In Favor Of Open Enrollment Education That Has Passed Through The House

(Jefferson City) A controversial bill, passed out of the Missouri House of Representatives last week just before spring break began for legislators.

It’s the Open Enrollment bill for K through 8 and K through 12 public schools.

Washington County school superintendents Alex McCaul of Potosi and Jason Samples of Valley of Caledonia, along with most other local school leaders, would like to see this bill fail.

However, State Representative Mike McGirl voted against the wishes of his local school leaders.

The lawmaker from Potosi says the Open Enrollment bill has other features too.

Representative McGirl thinks this bill may actually boost up some school districts.

The Open Enrollment bill now heads to the Missouri Senate for it’s consideration.
