SEMO Family Violence Council Pleased With New Law

(Bonne Terre) Missouri Governor Mike Parson has signed into law a bill that would allow domestic violence victims to ask for a lifetime protection order against their abuser. Stephanie Bennett is the executive director of the Southeast Missouri Family Violence Council. She says this new law is a big deal.

A judge would have to approve the request for a lifetime order of protection. If granted, that protection order would remain in place until the abuser can demonstrate that they have been rehabilitated. The legislation was championed by Senator Elaine Gannon of De Soto and Representative Lane Roberts of Joplin. Hear more with Bennett below.
