South Iron Wins 6th Straight A.V. Thanksgiving Tournament, Defeat West County 55-34; Arcadia Valley Takes 3rd

(Iron County) The South Iron Panthers won the Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. South Iron defeated West County, 55-34, in the championship game. The Bulldogs led 5-4 at one point in the first quarter and kept it close throughout the first half.

South Iron led 20-14 at the break. The Panthers outscored West County 18-7 in the third quarter. The game never got within more than 11 points. Sawyer Huff led all scorers with 19 points for South Iron.

Marquis Burse provided 15 points despite not playing the second quarter due to foul trouble. Coach Dusty Dinkins says it’s always special to win this tournament.

South Iron (3-0) will play at East Carter on Friday, December 1st.
Levi Hale and Brody Simily scored seven each for West County (2-1). The Bulldogs are at DeSoto on December the 5th.
The Arcadia Valley Tigers won the third-place game over Fredericktown 50-40. The Blackcats moved the ball well, but had very few opportunities. Blake Terry-Brakefield took advantage of the limited looks Fredericktown saw.

Terry-Brakefield finished with 9 points, which tied Zander Stevens for the team lead.
Arcadia Valley saw a strong game from the Douglas brothers. Gage racked up 14 points, and Gavin’s 21 point performance earned him the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game award.

The Tigers were able to clean up the fouls, which plagued them in the semifinals against West County. Head coach David Prater explains how the team corrected that area of their game.

Arcadia Valley is back in action on Tuesday against Lesterville. Fredericktown will face Kingston at home on December 4th.
