(POTOSI, Mo.) – The St. Pius baseball team seems to be living up to the hype, as the Lancers started their season by winning both games of a doubleheader at the Potosi Trojans on Saturday afternoon, 7-0 and 11-1.

The Lancers scored 3 runs in the third inning of Game 1 to jump in front, then used strong pitching and defense to keep the Trojans from ever getting back in the game.

Senior shortstop Elijah Dale ended up being our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game by coming up with 2 hits, including a triple and 2 runs batted in.
St. Pius further established itself right away at the start of Game 2 with the Gilster Mary Lee Play of the Game.

Senior center fielder Tyler Hedtkamp ended up with a pair of RBI to be our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game. Senior hurler Jeremy Isenman earned the win by pitching 4 innings and surrendering just one run, while the Lancer lineup scored 5 runs in the fifth to end the game early via the 10-run rule.
Lancers head coach Jerry Woods says his guys impressed him more with their gloves than their bats.

St. Pius is back in action at Bishop DuBourg Tuesday night, while Potosi will return to the diamond Thursday night when they host Festus.
