Standoff with sheriff’s deputies ends peacefully in Jefferson County

(Jefferson County) A standoff between a wanted man and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon with the suspect being taken into custody.

Grant Bissell is the Public Safety Information Coordinator for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

He says deputies received a tip shortly before 2 Wednesday afternoon that the suspect, who has a known long criminal history and an outstanding warrant regarding a domestic assault case, was in the area of the 4500 block of Chapel Hill Court near Hillsboro.

After a couple of hours negotiators were unable to make any contact with anyone inside the home.

The decision was then made by the command staff of the sheriff’s office to activate the SWAT Team.

The suspect is identified as 38-year-old Andrew Conaway of Hillsboro. He is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a no bond warrant.
