(STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.) – It was a successful first district game for the Ste. Genevieve Dragons football team as they dominated the Fredericktown Blackcats 31-7 on J-98 Friday. After a stalled Fredericktown drive early in the game, Ste. Genevieve came up with a key play on special teams.

Ste. Genevieve quarterback Logan Gegg ran it into the end zone on the very next play for a 21-yard touchdown. After another Gegg rushing score late in the first quarter, running back Austin Bullock added to the lead in the second.

After a long drive in the third quarter, the Dragons further cemented their position with a field goal from Mateas Lacerda.

With a strong lead in the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Seth Siebert ran the offense and eventually found the end zone himself.

With mere seconds left, Fredericktown finally broke up the shutout with senior wideout Ethan Flanagan scoring in his final high school football game.

Gegg earned Applebee’s Player of the Game honors with 19 carries, 80 yards and two touchdowns. Dragons head coach Ken Weik said the defense stood out.

Blackcats head coach Chuck Ford said the bad start did them in.

Ste. Genevieve is now 7-3 and will visit the Central Rebels next week in the Class 3 District 1 semifinals. Fredericktown ends the season at 3-7.
