The Battle Of Perry County Is The J98 Game Of The Week

(Perry County) The J98 Game of the Week features an old-school rivalry that’ll determine bragging rights in Perryville. The Pirates host St. Vincent in the Battle of Perry County Friday evening on The Boot.

 

St. Vincent is 2-0 and ranked 7th in the state in Class 1. With junior quarterback Christian Schaaf leading the offense, Indians head coach Tim Schumer says it’s been a team effort to score 79 points through two games.

 

St. Vincent boasts a defense that’s given up just three touchdowns this season.

 

The rivalry was renewed in 2016 after going idle for about 50 or 60 years and St. Vincent has dominated since then, winning 5 of the 6 games played. Schumer is an alum of St. Vincent so he appreciates what this rivalry game means to the county.

 

Perryville is on the opposite end of the spectrum. The Pirates are winless through two games and have scored just seven points on offense while giving up 76 total points. Brent Roth is the head coach and an alumnus of Perryville. He sees this game as a big opportunity to re-write the script for his team.
