Twin City Rivals Faceoff in Class 1 State Playoff Opener

(Festus) The fight is on to be called district champions in Missouri high school football. In this installment of Jefferson County Friday Night Football on KJFF, old rivals will go head-to-head for the first time this year in round one of the Class 1 District 2 Tournament. The Crystal City Hornets will travel 7-minutes down the road to take on the St. Pius Lancers at Father Dalton. It’s a year of first for the Lancers as they captured their first I-55 conference championship and looking for their first district championship since 1999. While head coach Dan Oliver is proud to be conference champions, the job still isn’t finished.

Lancers star senior running-back Nate Ruble, who has nearly 500 yards, 100 carries, and 9 touchdowns, will not be available for this game. However, Dan Oliver has some guys in Collin Smith and Dabrien Moss who are more than capable to lead this offense.

The Crystal City Hornets are coming off their best regular season in recent memory and have the most wins since the 2011 season. Coach Dan Fox says that they have been competitive in each game.

The Hornets are led by senior Calloway Dashner, who leads the team in rushing, receiving, touchdowns, and tackles. Coach Fox says that it’s not all Calloway though, as he has some underclassmen who have stepped up to the plate this season.

Crystal City and St. Pius will kickoff at 7 and can be heard on KJFF or online at mymoinfo.com. Pregame coverage starts at 6 with the Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show.
