Valle Catholic Hosts Potosi In Final Tune-Up Before Districts

(Ste. Genevieve) Valle Catholic and Potosi will square off on the softball diamond Tuesday afternoon in their final game before district tournaments begin Friday. We’ll broadcast Tuesday’s game on AM-800 KREI.

The Warriors defeated Scott City on Monday and are 13-3. They hold the top seed in the Class One District Two tournament, as well as a top 10 state ranking in Class One. Valle Catholic coach Kurt Basler says his team has been playing some good ball since finishing third in the MAAA tournament two weeks ago.

Last year, the Warriors won their first district championship in eight years of the program’s existence. They’re hoping to make it two in a row, so Basler values the games down the stretch against Class Two schools like Potosi and Scott City.

The Trojans are just 8-14, but their schedule is daunting. Tuesday’s game will be their ninth against a state ranked team this season. Second year coach Mariah Coleman says her team has been responding really well to the difficult matchups.

Potosi also has the top seed in their district tournament (C2D3) and will host the games. Coleman says the pitching tandem of freshman Shannon Riddle and sophomore Ava Wright has been steady and she’s hoping to see the bats show up against Valle sophomore pitcher Abree Zipprich.

Valle will host Potosi at Challenger Field in Ste. Genevieve Tuesday afternoon. Coverage begins at 3:45 on AM-800 KREI with first pitch at 4 o’clock.
