The West County Bulldogs baseball team is advancing to the state quarterfinals for the third straight year after a wild 11-10 victory on Monday over the Valley Park Hawks that was heard on KREI. It was all Bulldogs early on as they led 9-3 after three innings.

That was thanks in large part to senior Hayden Roney’s two home runs in as many plate appearances.

But things went sideways for West County in the innings to follow, as Valley Park put up seven consecutive runs to capture a 10-9 advantage, as innings 4, 5, and 6 saw the Bulldogs go scoreless.
But they finally broke back through in the bottom of the 7th when senior Zach Francis tied it with an RBI single and eventually walked it off thanks to some throwing errors from the Hawks.

West County head coach John Simily describes what he was feeling during the final play.

With the victory, West County improves to 21-6 and moves on to the state quarterfinals to play the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders on the road on Wednesday.
Valley Park sees their season end at 17-7. Saxony is ranked 10th in the state, while West County is receiving votes in the state rankings.
You can catch the game Wednesday on AM 800 KREI.
