(Leadwood, Mo.) The West County cross country team had a terrific showing at the Class 2 District 2 Meet this past Saturday with the boys team finishing in 2nd place to qualify for state while the girls team had three runners qualify for state individually.
Bulldogs head coach Calvin Malloy says they were able to lay out who the boys team needed to beat in order to qualify.
A trio of seniors led the way for the boys team with Cameron Stevens finishing in 4th place, Cody Moore in 5th place, and Korbyn Miller in 15th place.
It was then the effort from junior Chris Porterfield who finished in 19th place and freshman Thomas Kearns who finished in 36th place that gave the Bulldogs the edge to qualify the boys team for state.
The girls team finished in 3rd place overall at the meet and was paced by freshman Alivia Simily who took home 1st place with a time of 20:30:46.
Accompanying Simily at the top of the leaderboard were sophomore Sydney Cash who finished in 4th place and junior Kara Hovick who finished in 6th place.
Those three will now be competing individually in this weekend’s State Meet and Malloy says they’re performing their best at the right time.
The Missouri Boys and Girls Cross Country State Championships will be held at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia and Malloy says he anticipates the Bulldogs’ runners to perform well.
The State Championship Meet will be held Saturday morning with the Class 2 boys scheduled to begin at 9:35 and the Class 2 girls scheduled to begin at 10:50.
