West County Girls Fall in State Semis

(Springfield) West County fell short today in its bid for a place in the Class Three Girls Championship game as the 7th ranked Bulldogs fell 45-31 to 8th ranked South Shelby in the semifinal in Springfield.

The Bulldogs defense held the Lady Birds to only nine first half points and 3 of 25 from the field en route to a 17-9 lead at the break.

South Shelby ripped in three threes to gain momentum to start the third…

The Lady Birds went out front by seven until Claire Stevens gave the Dogs a flicker of life to close the third…

However, South Shelby went on a 27-5 run over the first 11 minutes of the second half to gain control 36-22.

West County was only able to close to within 10 one more time.

Lilly James scored nine for West County.

South Shelby made one of ten three point tries in the first half, but drained six of eight in the second half and forced 22 Bulldog turnovers.

Miranda Patterson led the Lady Birds with 20 points.

24-5 West County will play Strafford in the Class 3 third place game at 10 Friday morning.

El Dorado Springs edged Strafford 46-44 in the other semifinal game today.
