West County’s Gracie Wright Leads Bulldogs To Conference Tournament Title; Named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete Of The Week

(Frankclay) West County Softball pitcher Gracie Wright is our Applebees of Farmington Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance in the MAAA Softball Tournament last week in Park Hills, leading her team to a conference tournament championship.

Wright struck out 20 batters and only allowed 4 runs through three games in the circle for the Bulldogs. Most of those strikeouts came in the semi-finals vs. Valle Catholic, where she retired 11 Warrior hitters. She says she had a feel for her pitches that day.

In the Conference Championship against Central, Wright found herself in a jam with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. However, she found a way to get out without giving up a run. She says she thrives in those types of situations.

Whether it’s on the diamond or the hardwood, Wright brings a lot of intensity and passion to the game for West County. She says that type of energy runs in the family.

West County entered the MAAA Conference Tournament with a 4-8 record, but has won 4 out of their last 6 and sits now at 8-10. The Bulldogs have a chance to even out their record before the postseason this week as they face Bismarck tonight and Ste. Genevieve tomorrow.
