Jefferson & St. Pius meet again with baseball district title at stake on KJFF

(Festus) A baseball district champion will be crowned when two fierce crosstown rivals collide Wednesday in their home of Festus.

The St. Pius Lancers meet the Jefferson Blue Jays for the Class 3 District 4 title on KJFF, their third meeting this season.

Top-seeded St. Pius is 10-11 and took the first matchup with Jefferson thanks to the terrific pitching of junior Tate Ramey.

The Lancers have been at their best when Ramey and freshman Zander Street are on the mound, but they’ve had their share of struggles this year.

Pius head coach Dan Oliver says winning a championship will make it all worth it.

Jefferson might be the hottest team in Jefferson County, winning 12 of their last 15 to get to 14-8.

That included a 10-0 win in 5 innings at St. Pius on May 6th.

Seniors Colby Ott and Daylen Whitener have been spectacular all year, particularly during the strong second half.

But Blue Jays head coach Robert Kuehnle knows Round 3 with St. Pius will be no walk in the park.

The Lancers are looking for their first district title since winning back-to-back in 2013 and 2014.

The Blue Jays are still looking for that elusive first district trophy.

It’s the St. Pius Lancers and the Jefferson Blue Jays for the Class 3 District 4 baseball championship Wednesday.

Coverage starts at 3:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
