Barnhart woman sentenced after striking a motorcycle and killing the driver in 2022

A Barnhart woman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for her role in the death of a Villa Ridge man in May of 2022.

51-year-old Holly Smith was driving along the West Outer Road in Arnold and struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 54-year-old James A. Meyer, killing him. Smith then fled the scene and witnesses were able to keep sight of her vehicle until law enforcement officials were able to make the traffic stop and arrest her.

Smith pled guilty last week to DWI- Death of Another not a Passenger….a Class B felony, and Leaving Scene of an Accident – Resulting in Death…a Class D felony. She was sentenced to 15 years and 7 years in the Department of Corrections.
