Boy’s Golf Player of the Year Wil Claywell

From novice to expert in a very short amount of time, area coaches recognized North County senior Wil Claywell as the Boy’s Golf Player of the Year for the Regional Radio Spring Dream Team. Unlike many golfers who have been playing since they were little, Claywell started playing golf not too long ago. He had never swung a golf club before his last year of middle school and decided to play competitively as a freshman in high school.

Even though Claywell was a natural at the physical aspect of the game, the hurdle he needed to jump over was the mental aspect.

He is planning to play golf at the Community College level at MAC.

Claywell says that are still some things he can improve on to be more competitive at the college level.

Wil Claywell finished the season with a 38-stroke 9 hole average and a 77-stroke 18 hole average. He also received all-conference, all-district, and all-state honors and finished 9th overall in class 4.
