Central’s Casen Murphy Named Baseball Player Of The Year

(Park Hills) Central Sophomore Casen Murphy burst onto the scene this season for the Rebels. The two-way player extraordinaire showed one of the best arms on the bump and swings at the dish as area coaches named him this year’s Dream Team Player of the Year in baseball. While it’s a well-deserved recognition, Murphy was a little surprised to be named Player of the Year.

Murphy had lightning in his bat. He led the area in home runs with 7, tallied 41 runs batted in, and a batting average of .469. These numbers are credited to good discipline at the plate.

On the defensive side, opposing batters had trouble getting hits off Murphy. The sophomore posted a 1.39 ERA and struck out 81. Though there is one pitch that he felt was the best in his arsenal.

While Murphy always had the physical traits of a great player, improving on the mental side of the game has made him even better.

Murphy’s ability on the diamond was a catalyst for Central’s phenomenal baseball season. The Rebels went on a 19-game winning streak and captured their first district championship in seven years. But he says that doesn’t happen without their senior leadership.

Casen Murphy is currently playing summer ball for Evoshield Canes Midwest in Indiana. Canes Midwest has produced 35 Division 1 baseball commits.
