Central’s Horton Chooses Lindenwood University to Continue Basketball Career

(Park Hills) One of the best girls basketball players in the area has found a home for the next four years.

Central standout Sophia Horton recently signed to continue her basketball career with the Lindenwood University Lions.

She says she chose Lindenwood for several reasons.

Perhaps the biggest indicator of the respect that opposing teams have for Horton is the fact that she has been named the Girls Basketball Dream Team Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons – an award that is voted on solely by area coaches.

Simply put, when opponents play the Lady Rebels in basketball, they know they have to key on #13 to give themselves a chance in the game.

Despite that, Horton is able to consistently light up the scoreboard and fill up the stat sheet.

She says patience and coaching have helped her navigate all the attention she receives from opposing teams.

All of Horton’s individual accomplishments are synonymous with the success that the team has had throughout her tenure.

Over the past three seasons, the Lady Rebels have gone 69-13 with two district championships and are off to a 6-0 start this year in Horton’s senior season.

She says playing for Central has been an incredible experience.

Horton will join a Lindenwood women’s basketball team that went 40-17 over the past two seasons and is off to a 3-2 start this year.
