(FESTUS) Day 1 of the Class 3 District 2 volleyball tournament at Festus High School is Monday on the MYMOINFOSPORTS STREAM. The first match on tap is 4-seed DeSoto and 5-seed Ste. Genevieve in the Battle of the Dragons.

DeSoto beat Ste. Gen earlier this season in 2 sets at a time when Ste. Gen had just lost some significant contributors to injuries. Head Coach Jessica Fallert says that with a healthier group now, she expects to see her team at its best.

DeSoto head coach Lindsey Brinkman was aware of the beat-up Ste. Gen group her team faced last time. That being said, the ability to beat them again will come down to playing DeSoto-style volleyball.

DeSoto enters the tourney with a 10-15-5 record and Ste. Genevieve enters with a record of 11-4-4. First serve is at 4:30.

The 2nd matchup of Day 1 features Festus and Herculaneum. Despite injuries all year, the Tigers have a 19-10-2 record and are the 2-seed. Head Coach Karen Biehle has hope moving forward with the team now fully intact.

7-seed Herculaneum has struggled to a 7-17-2 record. Optimism remains high though for head coach Audrey Meda.

Festus and Herky follow DeSoto and Ste. Gen.

Then, to wrap up the first round, the 3rd-seeded North County Raiders will take on the 6th-seeded Potosi Trojans. The Raiders competed well in the MAAA Conference Tournament last week, taking 23-win Valle Catholic and 27-win Central to the brink before eventually losing.

Head Coach Chelsey Crocker says that hitting errors, among other things, will need to be corrected to have success in districts.

Potosi is 10-17. Head Coach Brett Hale says that the experience the Trojans have gained from playing tough competition this year has made them better.

North County and Potosi will be the third and final match from the first round of the Class 3 District 2 tournament. All of the volleyball action on Monday begins at 4:30 and will take place at Festus High School. It can be heard on the MY-MO-INFO-SPORTS-STREAM. Pregame is at 4:15.

The winner of DeSoto and Ste. Gen will face top-seed Central in the semifinals. The winners from Festus and Herky and North County and Potosi will face each other in the semifinals. The semis and championship matches in the Class 3 District 2 volleyball tournament will take place on Tuesday beginning at 4:30, also on the MY-MO-INFO-SPORTS-STREAM.
