(FESTUS) Opening round coverage of the Class 3 District 3 boys and girls basketball tournaments will be Saturday on KJFF and KREI.

The first game of the day will be on KJFF only and features the 4th-seeded Herculaneum Lady Blackcats at 16-9 overall and the 5th-seeded Jefferson Lady Blue Jays at 14-9. Herky head coach Riley Blair says that the team’s postseason success begins with Paige Fowler.

The Lady Jays can be challenging with three-year starter Jenna Curtois leading the team in assists and steals. Head coach Brandon Joines feels like she’s ready to carry the team to victory.

Herculaneum and Jefferson will start the day with tip-off at 9 a.m.

The second game of our coverage will also be on KJFF only. It’s the boys’ top-seeded St. Pius Lancers at 18-7 overall against 8th-seeded Herculaneum, who are 9-13 overall. This is a rematch of a February 6th game in which the Blackcats defeated St. Pius 49-43.

Head coach Jason Jarvis talks about the adjustments his team will have to make in order to beat St. Pius again.

Since the absence of leading scorer and rebounder Riley Naeger, the Lancers have won their last two games, including a victory over Jefferson. Head coach Eric Lawrence spoke after that win about how his team can avenge their loss to Herky.

St. Pius and Herculaneum boys are scheduled to tip-off at 10:30 a.m.

Our final game of the opening round will be on both KREI and KJFF and it features the 3rd-seeded Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers and the 6th-seeded St. Pius Lady Lancers. Arcadia Valley is 15-9 overall, wrapping up its regular season Thursday night with a win over Potosi. Lady Tigers head coach Stan Whited needs his girls to continue bringing the intensity into districts.

The Lady Lancers are 9-14 overall and have won just one of their last eight games. St. Pius will need a big game from sophomore guard AJ Agers, who leads the Lancers in scoring with 13.5 points per game. St. Pius and Arcadia Valley are scheduled to start at noon on AM 800 KREI and AM 1400 KJFF.
