Class 5 District 1 boys’ quarterfinals start busy hoops Saturday on J98

(DeSoto) The Class 5 District 1 boys’ basketball tournament gets underway Saturday afternoon on J98.

The second-seeded Festus Tigers face off with the number-seven-seed Farmington Knights in a rematch of last year’s district semifinals.

Festus is 19-5, having only lost twice in this calendar year.

Tigers head coach Jason Therrell says unselfish play has lead to their success.

Farmington is 12-12 but has lost seven of its last 10 games, including a 81-53 defeat to Festus.

Knights head coach Garrett Callahan explains what has to be different to tame the Tigers.

The sixth-seeded Windsor Owls will try to knock off Sikeston and punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Both teams are 16-10, with Windsor finishing the regular season strong and winning six of its last nine.

Owls head coach Ryan McArthy says he has an extremely versatile squad.

The final game of the night from DeSoto will see the fourth-seeded North County Raiders battle the number-five-seed Hillsboro Hawks.

North County is 14-12 but has come out on top in seven of the last 10.

Raiders head coach Jimmy Palmer says the defending district champs are in a groove.

Hillsboro comes into the postseason on an absolute roll, winning 14 of the last 16 to reach 19-6.

Hawks head coach Dan Johnson says his team has found an identity.

Coverage of the Class 5 District 1 boys’ quarterfinals starts Saturday afternoon at 1:45 on J98.
