Crystal City clears Valley Caledonia in girls’ district semis on KJFF

(Crystal City) The Crystal City Hornets are no stranger to winning in the girls’ basketball playoffs.

They made that clear with a 65-36 win over Valley of Caledonia in the Class 2 District 4 semifinals Tuesday night on KJFF.

Crystal City couldn’t seem to shake the Valley Vikings until a big shot late in the first half from one of their stars.

Sophomore forward Kate Eisenbies scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half and was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Once the other Hornet stars got out of foul trouble, they came to life in the second half.

Sophomore guard Molly Clemmons scored 17 of her game-high 24 points after halftime, and senior forward Annie Waites had 10 of her 17 after the break.

Crystal City head coach Ken Jones says his top players learned the importance of playing foul-free.

While Valley has its season end with a record of 4-16, the Hornets improve to 6-13 and will play in a district title game for the third straight year.

Crystal City will travel to take on Viburnum in the Class 2 District 4 championship Thursday night, a game you can hear on AM 1400 KJFF.
