(Park Hills) The Girls trophy games matchups have been decided and the boy’s quarterfinals are in the books at the 66th annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament.

South Iron Girls vs Potosi Girls

In our first broadcast game, the top-seeded South Iron girls punched their ticket to the title game with a 59-47 win over Potosi. The Panthers used an 18-2 run in the third to go on top by 27 points, connecting with 5 3-pointers in the quarter.

Potosi showed fight and pushed back to make it a 12 point game at the end. South Iron’s Allecia Cornell was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 16 points. South Iron Coach Lawrence Graves talks about her performance.

Central Girls vs Steelville Girls

The Panthers will play Steelville in the championship game as the third-seeded Cardinals beat Class 4 second-ranked and second-seeded Central 58-56 in the other semifinal in the first thriller of the tournament.

This one was a dogfight from start to finish. Central went up 9-2, but Steelville ran back with a 9-1 push to take the lead and it was back and forth from there. The game wasn’t decided until the buzzer…

Lauren Davis led Steelville with 15 points and Khloe Dischbein scored 16 for Central.
Cardinals coach Zach Kennedy says his team isn’t perfect, but he’s perfectly happy with his team…

Class Three’s 9th ranked Cardinals moved on to the championship at 9-3. 7-2 Central will play Potosi for third.

South Iron Boys vs Steelville Boys

Top-seeded and Class One number one ranked South Iron started boys quarterfinal play with an 81-68 win over 8th seeded Steelville. The Panthers pulled away early by great play from dynamic seniors Drenin Dinkins and DJ Prater.

In the 4th quarter, Steelville started raining in threes and even cut the score to single digits, but Prater put the game on ice.

DJ Prater was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 20 points, multiple blocks, steals, rebounds and assists. Panthers Coach Dusty Dinkins says Steelville gave them their best shot.

North County goes to the semis against North County at 5-4. Farmington moves to the 5th place bracket against Steelville at 6-3.

Central Boys vs Hillsboro

The 2nd-seeded Central Rebels survived an upset bid from the Hillsboro Hawks 67-66. It was the Hawks who had the lead late in the fourth after an inbound bucket for Noah Holland.

But with 15 seconds left, it was star-sophomore Jobe Bryant with the heroics to win it for Central.

Jobe Bryant was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 35 points and the game-winning basket. Even though Bryant was phenomenal late in the game, Coach Brad Gross says they needed contributions from everyone on the floor.

Central improves to 7-1 and advances to the semifinal round of the tournament. Hillsboro drops to 5-4.

Festus Boys vs Ste. Genevieve Boys

The final game of the night also came down to the final seconds as third-seeded Festus outlasted 6th seeded Ste. Genevieve 67-65. Festus pushed their lead to 10 in the third quarter, but a 23-11 Ste. Gen run put them out front in the 4th. The Tigers immediately responded with the next six points and never trailed again. Cole Rickermann led Festus with 18 points, passed 1000 for his career, and came up with the defensive play of the game…
