(Hillsboro) Less than two weeks ago, current State Senator Paul Wieland announced he was running for Jefferson County Executive later this year. Current County Executive Dennis Gannon will now have an opponent as he has already stated he would be seeking re-election. Gannon says he still feels he’s the better choice to continue for another four-year term.
Gannon says Wieland’s announcement will not change his focus or plans to continue to move the county forward.
Gannon and Wieland are both republican’s and will face one another in the Primary election on August 2nd. Gannon was first elected in 2018, while Wieland has spent the past 14 years in the Missouri Legislature, six years in the Missouri House, and the past eight years in the Senate.
