DeSoto man’s body found in DeSoto area lake

(DeSoto) The body of a missing DeSoto man was found in a small lake south of DeSoto this past Wednesday night. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Grant Bissell says the missing man left early that morning to go fishing, but never returned home…that’s when the man’s wife contacted authorities.

Bissell says the deputy then traveled to the lake located near the Big Woods subdivision and found the man’s truck and trailer. He then began making his way to the lake.

Members of the DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District assisted in retrieving the body, and it was confirmed to be that of 68-year-old Robert Helms. There are no signs of foul play and is not being investigated as a homicide. Helms’ body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.
