Festus agrees to help JCWA with emergency repair help when called for

(Festus) The City of Festus has agreed to enter into an Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement with the Jefferson County Water Authority in case of maintenance and repair help if the need would ever arise. Festus is part of the Jefferson County Water Authority along with the city of Herculaneum. Festus Public Works Director Matt Unrein says they want to allow their city mechanic to be able to do emergency work for the group if it was needed.

Festus City Administrator Greg Camp says since most municipalities don’t employ a mechanic, this would be a good idea to help in a pinch.

This agreement could be extended to help other municipalities in the future as well.

Camp says the continued growth of the Festus and Herculaneum communities, especially with the residential sector, may result in the Water Authority making changes to help with that growth.

Camp says another reason for an additional well, is the possibility of a future commercial or industrial development at the Jefferson County Port in Herculaneum.
