(TROY) The Festus football Tigers are at Troy Buchanan Friday night on AM 1400 KJFF to take on the Trojans in the final tune-up to the district tournament next week.

The Tigers enter with a 4-4 record and are coming off a tough 34-26 loss to St. Francis Borgia in which the Tigers led by 12 at the half. Festus Head Coach Russ Schmidt took away a couple of positives from hanging with the Knights.

The Trojans are 5-3 in Class 6 District 2 this season and have won their last two games by a total of 48 points. The Trojans have been without their injured starting quarterback Kendall Hutchison the last two weeks. So, head coach Ryan Nesbitt has been starting Max Mitchell and has been feeding Zach Collins in his absence.

Collins and the injured Hutchison have combined this season for 1,484 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Coach Nesbitt respects the Tigers greatly and won’t underestimate them because of the similar style they and the Trojans play.

Coach Schmidt will make sure that his guys are focused on tackling the game one play at a time.

Based on the Class 4 District 1 standings, if the Tigers win, they will just about be guaranteed to host a game in Round 1 of districts. The same can be said for Troy Buchanan. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. from Troy Buchanan High School on AM 1400 KJFF.
