Festus faces DeSoto chasing championships in baseball on KJFF

(Jefferson County) A potential playoff preview could break out Friday on Jefferson County Baseball when the Festus Tigers take on the DeSoto Dragons on KJFF.

Festus has wrapped up the JCAA Large-School Division championship after winning the front half of the conference series Thursday.

Behind the pitching of juniors Nate Moore and Ian Brown, the Tigers are unbeaten in league play.

Add in the slugging ability of sophomore Hayden Bates, senior Connor McDonald and juniors Jackson Gross, Wyatt Huskey and Tyler Bizzle, and you can see how an 18-8 season can happen.

But Festus head coach Jeff Montgomery believes now is the time his team has to be more dialed in than ever.

DeSoto has now dropped seven of their last 9 games to fall to 7-11.

But Dragons pitchers Caleb Coleman and Cody DeClue have been great on the mound and seem to keep them in it every game.

DeSoto head coach Matt Buechting says, because they’ve often lacked enough offense, great pitching is the key to a solid stretch run.

DeSoto and Festus are fighting for better seeding in Class 5 District 1.

The Dragons duel the Tigers Friday afternoon to wrap up the week with some Jefferson County Baseball.

Coverage begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 4:15 on AM 1400 KJFF.
