Festus Football Closes Season As District Runner-Ups

The Festus Tigers had their football season came to a close Friday night as they fell to the West Plains Zizzers 45-6 in the class 4, district 1 quarterfinals.
It ended up being a low-scoring 1st quarter as Zizzers’ quarterback Connor Rackley went for the endzone at the 1-yard line and jumped his team out to a quick 7-0 lead, setting the tone for the night…
The 2nd quarter didn’t go the way of Festus, as right out the gate the Zizzers scored on a punt return from Allen Marcak to place West Plains ahead 13-0.
Another touchdown with a successful 2-conversion and later a field goal from West Plains just extended the lead to 24-0 at the break.Festus found themselves down 45-0 in the final seconds, but the Tigers got on the board at the buzzer to avoid the shutout.
Tigers head coach Russ Schmidt knew his team would face a lot of adversity.
The Tigers end their season with a record of 7-5 while West Plains moves to 12-0 and advances to state.
