Festus Girls Beat St. Clair in Season Opener

(ST. CLAIR)    The Festus girls basketball team won their season opener Monday night at St. Clair by the score of 54-45. Josie Allen, one of the three seniors on the Festus squad scored 22 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Another senior, Mya Courtois had nine points and freshman Aliza Skaggs added 8 points with five rebounds to help Festus get the win.

Festus jumped out to a 21-12 first quarter lead but were outscored 12-5 in the second quarter, giving them only a two point 26-24 lead at halftime. Festus outscored St. Clair 12-5 in the third and both teams scored 16 points in the fourth.

Festus girls head coach Steve McFarland says his team is young, not as tall, but quick.

McFarland says one of the big priorities he is stressing to the team is the importance of defending the post.

The Lady Tigers finished last season with a record of 15-8. Festus is off until Monday night when they will play at De Soto.
