Fredericktown Man Sentenced in Child Porn Case

(CAPE GIRARDEAU) The United States Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that a Madison County man has been sentenced to prison on a possession of child porn conviction. 48-year-old Joseph A. Morgan of Fredericktown will serve 87 months or 7 years and 3 months in a federal prison. Morgan appeared for his sentencing hearing Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Cape Girardeau. Court documents say law enforcement served a search warrant at a residence in Madison County in March of 2021 after developing probable cause that an individual was obtaining videos containing child pornography over the internet. Morgan was found on the property and investigators seized his tablet and a thumb drive. Over 60 child porn videos were discovered on the devices. At his guilty plea hearing earlier this year, Morgan admitted he used the internet to acquire the material. After serving his sentence, Morgan will be placed on supervised release for the rest of his life. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
