Grandview seniors make star turn in girls’ hoops win over Crystal City

(Crystal City) The Grandview Eagles had arguably their best offensive night of the season, but they did it in an unusual fashion.

Grandview knocked off the Crystal City Hornets 57-37 Thursday evening on KJFF on a night when leading scorer Anna Belle Wakeland didn’t make a shot.

Instead, the Eagles jumped out to a 25-18 lead at halftime behind an unlikely hero.

Senior Lilly Patterson scored 10 of her season-high 14 points in the first half.

Grandview was able to pull away in the third quarter when another surprising star emerged.

Nine of senior Natalee Moore’s season-high 15 points came in the third quarter.

Moore and Patterson were named the Applebee’s of Farmington Players of the Game.

Eagles head coach Tim Winkler said it wasn’t how they normally draw up a win, but he’s proud of how his seniors stepped up on offense.

Grandview improves to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the JCAA Small-School Division, while Crystal City loses its conference opener to fall to 8-8.
