Health Officials in Jefferson County Preparing for COVID-19

(Jefferson County) With one official confirmed case of COVID-19 reported in St. Louis, health officials in Jefferson County are preparing for the Coronavirus in the case that someone were to test positive in the county.

Kelley Volmar is the Director of the Jefferson County Health Department. She says the health department has been working closely with medical professionals and monitoring the Coronavirus case in St. Louis.

Volmar adds as of right now they do not have any suspected cases of the virus in Jefferson County.

However, she goes on to explain how the health department would handle if someone were to begin to have symptoms.

So how people can reduce the risk of getting and spreading the virus.

John Winkelman is the Community Relations Manager at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. He says Mercy Hospital is ready to handle any COVID-19 case, if one were to happen locally.

So far more than 600 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the United States, and more than 111,000 worldwide.

The virus is also being blamed for at least 22 deaths in the U.S. and more than 3,800 deaths globally.
