Hillsboro hosts St. Pius in boys’ holiday hoops on KJFF

(Hillsboro) A pair of JCAA boys’ basketball teams meet up Tuesday on KJFF when the St. Pius Lancers visit the Hillsboro Hawks.

Both teams are looking to find their rhythm.

Sophomore guard Patrick Flanagan has been a breakout start for St. Pius by averaging a team-high 14 points per game, and senior forward Nate Ruble has been a force in the paint.

But the Lancers have lost three of their last four after a 3-0 start.

Head coach Chris Miller says it’s still a feeling-out process.

Hillsboro has lit up the scoreboard thanks to senior guard Kyle Phipps, who is averaging almost 25 points per contest.

Junior Noah Holland has been excellent in every facet of the game, averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals a game.

But despite averaging almost 70 points per game, the Hawks are just 3-3.

Head coach Dan Johnson says being better comes down to what they do at the other end of the floor.

The Hawks have won eight of the last 9 games against the Lancers, including a 43-42 victory in a thriller last year.

St. Pius squares off with Hillsboro Tuesday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.

Coverage starts with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show just after 6:30.
